Tracey L. Freed

Founding Attorney
Freed Law, P.C.

Tracey L. Freed is Founder of Freed Law, P.C., a boutique law firm specializing in digital media, entertainment and technology transactions based in Los Angeles, California. Freed has been recognized as a Trailblazer by The American Lawyer Magazine, a Top Cyber/Artificial Intelligence Lawyer by the Daily Journal, Thriving by the L.A. Business Journal, and a Rising Star and SuperLawyer by Los Angeles Magazine.

Freed advises emerging growth companies, Hollywood studios, and Fortune 100 companies at the intersection of media, technology, advertising and innovation, including structuring and negotiating commercial transactions related to content creation, distribution and monetization, technology commercialization, branded content & influencer marketing, AR/VR & social gaming, artificial intelligence, big data and ad tech.

Prior to opening her own practice, Freed was Assistant General Counsel of Digital Networks at Sony Pictures Entertainment where she was Head of Legal for Crackle, Sony’s multi-platform ad supported video entertainment network, during the emergence of digital media as an industry, and the development of streaming video across mobile and OTT platforms. Crackle was one of only three ad supported video “streamers” in the market at the time, where Freed structured and negotiated many unprecedented, first of its kind deals.

Working on the novel business and legal issues surrounding digital media and tech inspired Freed to create the first law school course at Loyola Law School dedicated to digital media in 2011, entitled “Digital Media & the Law,” which she taught for almost 10 years as an Adjunct Professor. Eager to tackle the next wave of novel issues, and stemming from her work with current clients, Freed co-created and co-taught “Artificial Intelligence & the Law” at Loyola Law School from 2017-2020.

Freed has been practicing law for over 20 years, and began her career at Irell & Manella, LLP in the corporate, private equity and intellectual property groups. She frequently speaks at conferences, bar association events, and law schools, and has been quoted and interviewed by various news outlets and industry podcasts.

Freed is the former Co-Chair of TechTainment, an annual media & tech conference, a former board member of the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel (AMEC) “Women Who Lead,” and former Co-Program Chair of the Entertainment and Intellectual Property Executive Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA). Freed received her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School, and her Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from UCLA. Freed lives in Los Angeles with her husband and daughter.
